Building Balance as a Pilates Instructor and Mom
I’m excited to now be working at CoreSpark Pilates six days a week, and it’s all thanks to the growing demand from clients seeking private sessions. This expansion feels like a milestone—not only in my Pilates career but also in how I’m building a life that balances work, passion, and motherhood.
This weekend, I spent three hours in a pelvic floor workshop hosted by CoreSpark. It’s one of the perks of working here, a studio that invests in continuing education for its instructors. These workshops aren’t just about learning for me; they have a direct impact on the experience I offer my clients. The knowledge I bring into my sessions goes beyond what’s possible in group classes. My clients get a personalized, focused experience, tailored to their specific needs and goals—something that sets private Pilates apart.
After the workshop, I walked over to Vuori to treat myself to some new gear (thanks to my V1 Community instructors discount 🙌🏾) and then met up with a friend for a bike ride through Marina del Rey. It was a perfect reminder of how important it is to carve out time for yourself, even when your schedule is busy.
Speaking of busy, I’m now getting closer to my goal of teaching 20 to 25 sessions per week. But, as any mom knows, balance is key. I’ve thoughtfully structured my availability so I can still pick up my daughter from school. I may be leaving the house at 4:30 am for my early morning clients, but that flexibility means I can show up for my family and also for myself.
One way I prioritize my own growth is by attending a weekly “Teachers Class” with Chaz Knight at Hummingbird Pilates in Beverly Hills. Blocking off this time when I could be teaching might seem counterintuitive, but investing in continuing education is just as much a commitment to myself as it is to my clients. The more I grow, the more I can offer them.
For anyone considering a career in Pilates—or any career pivot, really—investing in yourself is invaluable. It’s what allows me to provide for my family while also finding joy in the work I do, whether I’m shopping on a Saturday afternoon or taking a bike ride in the marina. Building a career you love is possible, and when you commit to growing both personally and professionally, everyone benefits.
